You couldn’t walk through Harlem this summer without hearing the syrupy dembow of Capella Grey’s “GYALIS” bumping out of car speakers and apartment windows. Built around a sample of Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up,” the pithy earworm earned some dap in all five boroughs – the most recent evidence being the rising rapper’s performance alongside Busta Rhymes at a Brooklyn Nets home game. Staying between the NBA lines, Grey also worked with A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie on a track this summer for superstar forward Kawhi Leonard’s ‘Culture Jam’ project. Capella kept the hot streak rolling in our Ctrl studio. We have a feeling this take of his breakout hip-hop bop will be grabbing eyes from the TriState and beyond.
